Created by Sybille Schenker and published in the celebrated Michael Neugebauer style, it's adorned with striking silhouette line art delicately enhanced with gold leaf, making every page feel like a small treasure. The use of black-and-white or bright green on large pages protected with film and plastic for the black cover make this truly collectible. The familiar opening: "In olden times, when wishing still did some good..." unfolds across pages that are as captivating as the story itself. Staircases shimmer in gold, scenes play with bold contrasts of black and white, and others glow in rich frog-green, many finished with gentle gilding. The design invites little hands and curious eyes, while protective covers ensure the pages remain bright, tactile, and loved for years to come. The story follows the beautiful young princess, her lost golden toy, and the unlikely frog who offers his help - on one surprising condition - that he may come and live at the Royal Palace with her. A very collectible first edition. Ages 5-7, 24.6 x 27 cm, 48 pages. A. Milne and E. H. Shepard the illustrator. The images and text they wove together was in a way utterly original for the time and for Shepard it was a process that he relished, creating artwork for new editions right up until his death in 1976, at the age of 96. This beautifully presented full colour volume presents 150 full colour images including never-before-published sketches, finished artwork, personal family photographs and memorabilia. The drawings for Winnie-The-Pooh are well known across the world but perhaps less well known is how these actually came about. This special book throws new night on the creative processes of these much-loved depictions of the imaginary toys and animals belonging to Christopher Robin. There is an early sketch of an anxious looking Pooh struggling into his duffle coat and full coverage of the early biographical details of Ernest Howard Shepard born in 1879 in St John's Wood to an architect and his wife with artistic and literary connections and becoming a star pupil at the RA School. Alan Alexander Milne was born in 1882 in London where his father ran a boys' preparatory school in Kilburn where H. G. Wells was employed to teach maths and science. He gained a scholarship to Westminster school and studied mathematics in Cambridge in 1900 becoming Editor of the Cambridge literary magazine Granta in 1902 with connections to Punch and other national periodicals. Thus Shepard and Milne were contemporaries in age, born in the same part of London, from similar backgrounds, each the youngest of three siblings with a particular talent that was identified and nurtured. The books they created have appeared in millions of editions and nearly 50 languages and this beautiful keepsake book is perfect for anyone who loves A. A. Milne's beloved Bear of Very Little Brain and art in general. 158 very large pages in softback, 21 x 28cm.

<br>Click YouTube icon to see this book come to life on video. <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KzptDV2ip5o" target="_blank"><img src="/WebRoot/Store/Shops/Bibliophile/MediaGallery/youtube.jpg" style="border: 0px" /></a>

Save 46% compared with the recorded RRP.

Author: TATIANA BOYKO

ISBN: 9781913947828

A fun strategy game for adults and children aged 6+ based on the ancient game play of Mancala. Designed for young adults ages 10-13 the publisher recommends, but we would say more like 16 to adult given that there are beheadings and quite a lot of French language and history. Featuring Disney Princess Beauty and the Beast, happily ever after is only the beginning. It is 1789 and France is on the brink of revolution. Belle has broken the Enchantress's curse, restoring the Beast to his human form and bringing life back to their castle in the principality of Aveyon. But in Paris the fires of change are burning and it's only a matter of time before the rebellion arrives on their doorstep. Not so long ago Belle dreamed of leaving her provincial home for a life of adventure, but now she finds herself living in a castle, torn between her past as a commoner and her future as royalty. With violent factions looking to take control of a magic mirror that holds a dire warning, events threaten to overcome her. With everything she loves at risk, Belle must embrace her own strength and become the queen she is meant to be. 396 page paperback.

Save 44% compared with the recorded RRP.

Author: MATT HAIG

Format: Paperback

ISBN: 9781838853723

Writers like Francesca Simon and Janette Winterson have praised this evergreen Christmas story as 'a glorious mix of fairytale, folklore and fun' and 'Matt Haig puts the Happy back into Christmas'. When young children have bad dreams their whole routine and yours may become troubled. It encourages resilience and belief in their own strength to cope with bad dreams and by reading the book together your child will feel listened to and understood and safe and realise that you can resolve worries together. 'Little Knight, you are bold as the brave knights of old, but I have a secret for you. Though the stories don't tell, knights had bad dreams as well, and they couldn't sleep sometimes, too. Those knights, they were strong, they faced dragons all day long...' Pink, red, orange and blue, dragons peep out from behind trees and breath fire on the little male and female Knight characters, sometimes three or four to a page across starry skies and into the bedroom where there is the cat, the bookcase and comfy quilt. Count one, two, three sounds far and near. Pull out the pages carefully tearing along the perforated lines and fold along the dotted lines forward or backward as instructed by the blue or green dots. Slot the characters into the bases so that they can stand upright around the villa. The first few pages of this softback instruct little ones ages 5-8 about life in Rome where politicians made speeches on the steps of the Temple of Jupiter to get support for new laws. Spot a statue of the goddess Victory, or a Roman wedding in a busy picture where you can see the Colosseum and huge aqueducts. Admire the mosaic following the Roman numeral colour key below and bathe like a Roman in the hot tub making sure your attendant is paid to watch your clothes as you take a leisurely swim in the warm tepidarium. Learn all about toilet paper, soap and other cosmetics, Roman food, practical jokers, follow a recipe for little Honey and Sesame Seed Biscuits, and a little about patricians, plebs and proles. And there are quizzes and maps, emperors and gladiators too. 16 page large softback, 28 x 21cm.

Save 40% compared with the recorded RRP.

Author: IGLOO BOOKS

Format: Hardback

ISBN: 9781788104043

Meet Twinkle the Unicorn - soft, squishy, and ready for magical fun! A dark blue night sky with a big silver star is the background to the intricate white houses and temple on the hillside scene which literally pops up from the pages. 'A STAR appeared, shining bright, to mark a very special night. It came to celebrate a birth - the Son of God, born on Earth. And still today, in our night sky, the CHRISTMAS STAR is seen on high...' The second scene is a snowcapped mountain with Santa on his sleigh in the background and on each page the bright silver star moves across the sky casting a glow that lights up lands of sparkling snow. We see the reindeer and the hare, a cityscape, the huge star twinkling over the harbourside, over a cosy home with a Christmas tree in the window, and finally directly over a spectacular colourful Christmas tree with the white paper scalloped edges and colourful dots for baubles and all measuring approximately 6" tall. Author Andy Mansfield has been a paper engineer for over 20 years and studied under the pre-eminent paper engineer Ron van der Meer. 12 large pages, 25.8cm squared, either for toddlers aged 3-6 or of course for adult collectors of beautiful pop-up books.
